Karavika is a chamber folk ensemble led by violinist Trina Basu and cellist Amali Premawardhana. With roots in India, Sri Lanka and North America, Trina and Amali explore the folk and classical music of the lands their families immigrated from through the Western chamber musical lens that the both of them are grounded in. Drawing upon simple folk melodies and complex classical compositions, Karavika blends creative improvisations and arrangements with authentic traditions. They are joined by Perry Wortman on bass and have collaborated with some of the finest young Indian music artists including tabla players Roshni Samlal, Avi Shah and Sameer Gupta; mridangists, Rajna Swaminathan and Rohan Krishnamurthy, vocalist Roopa Mahadevan, and violinist Arun Ramamurthy.
